Pile is a stoner rock band from Boston that crafts a sleepy, post-grunge sound. With moments of off-kilter energy sewn throughout its songs, the group first captured its distinctive style on the 2009 album Jerk Routine. Mastering the balance between the past and present of alternative rock, punk and post punk, post-hardcore and indie, Pile captured a massive following that has grown with each of its subsequent LPs, such as 2012's Drippings.

»Captain Grandpa

March 02, 2015 8:00 PM

Mormon husband-wife duo (along with a consistently rotating third member) Low is known as an early 90s pioneer of the slowcore movement. While the band dislikes being associated with this term, and prefers minimalist post-rock, it was one of the first to play such quiet, haunting rock in an era of loud post-punk and grunge and thus is a significant contributor to this style of music. Formed in Duluth, Minnesota, the band quickly grabbed the attention of major label heads and was touring with Radiohead within a few years of its inception, while band member Mimi Parker was visibly pregnant. Though the trio has never received huge mainstream success, it remains an indie darling, releasing albums popular at college radio and touring worldwide.

Southeastern Ireland's Danú is a traditional Irish band that was founded in 1995. Benny McCarthy, Donal Clancy, Donnchadh Gough and Daire Bracken met in 1994, when they were invited to play together at the Lorient Inter-celtic Festival in France, after which a friend named the group Danu, after the Celtic Goddess. Danú was invited to return to the festival the following year, by which time the brothers Tom and Eamonn Doorley joined the group. With its 1997 self-titled debut album it followed with a tour of the US, the band began reaching new audiences and its reputation as an energetic group with a commitment to traditional Irish music grew by leaps and bounds. The band's 2000 album Think Before You Think was voted Best Overall Traditional Act by the Dublin-based publication Irish Music. Though the band has gone through number of lineup changes, the most drastic of which being the addition of Muirean Nic Amhlaoibh as lead singer, Danú has released a total of nine albums as of 2010 and has played a number of high profile events, including the 2005 Irish governments trade delegation in India.

»3/3: Blkkathy + Special Guests Tba

March 03, 2015 9:00 PM

One night in Brooklyn in 2012, two friends, Kate Faust and Kate Linhardt, decided to make some art. 30 minutes later, Dem Bones was born, an irreverent ode to heartbreak. With more time came more beers, and BLKKATHY began crafting alternative feminist R&B outsider electronic unlike anything youve ever heard before or ever will. Heavy bass beats and pop hooks underlie their essential vulnerability. BLKKATHYs confrontational lyricism and unlikely melodies allow listeners an intimacy that is rare in contemporary music, the kind of candor that can make you both uncomfortable and excited. 9PM Doors // 10PM Sounds | $8 in Advance // $10 Day of Show | 18+
