A traditional Chinese Temple in the city of Marysville, California, it was built in the year 1854, five years after the first contingent of Chinese immigrants arrived in California to work the goldmines during the California Gold Rush. The Temple houses Bok Kai, the God of water, having said to have control over the rains. The original temple was destroyed by fire and was replaced in the year 1880. The temple is the only one in the nation housing this God. It hosts an annual festival and parade in spring. It is open for visits at other times, but needs prior arrangements. Bidwell Mansion, located on 525 Esplanade in Chico, California was constructed by John Bidwell in May 1868. The mansion was built at a cost of USD60000 and has an Italianate style of architecture. An in-house tour of the mansion takes about an hour and there are also gift shops, a museum, a theater and a lobby to see.
