    »Brett Dennen

    October 23, 2014 7:00 PM

The slightly awkward, red haired and freckled singer/songwriter Brett Dennen often surprises audiences with his warm, folk-inflected voice and catchy guitar picking. Dennen began writing songs in 2004 as a camp counselor for kids, but soon realized that music was a career he wanted to pursue. Eventually his soft-rock ballads caught the attention of his contemporaries and Dennen was invited to open for the likes of John Mayer and Jason Mraz. After he secured multiple songs on popular television shows, Dennen had established enough of a reputation to headline prominent venues around the country.

    »Natalie Merchant

    October 23, 2014 8:00 PM

Entering the music scene in 1981 with the group 10,000 Maniacs, Natalie Merchant went on to become a voice for a generation (sorta). Her croon is extremely characteristic and after hearing it people tend to fall in love with her. Though she left the Maniacs in 1993, Merchant has gone on to release a number of solo albums and tour in support of them. Her songs typically center around the soft rock genre and her sorrowful lyrics help to complement the doleful instrumentation quite well.

Endowed with a love of music at a young age, Rain initially played the piano, but eventually was drawn to electronic music and started DJing throughout the 1990s. Priding himself on bringing warmth to a generally cold genre, Rain's work as Phutureprimitive showcases downtempo melodies blended with fuzzed-out basslines and IDM beats. While Phutureprimitive initially performed live as a one-man-band, the group has since adopted a full backing band for live sets.
