»Tucumcari Historical Museum

Whether you are an antique collector, a local history buff, or merely a curious traveler looking to discover the stories the lay hidden behind the demure facade of this small town, the Tucumcari Historical Museum has something for you. Housed within the town's old schoolhouse, built in in 1903, the museum is an exhibit in itself. Spread across the building's three floors and landscaped garden you will encounter thousands of artifacts, rare photographs, antiques and memorabilia that together chronicle the rich and colorful history of this region. This museum is quite unlike any other, with everything from old cowboy hats, boy scout uniforms, prized bowling balls, antique jukeboxes and Native American pottery cluttered together much like they might be in the home of an organized hoarder with a discerning eye and a penchant for collecting the most unusual things. For all those who think they've seen in all, the Tucumcari Historical Museum holds treasures that you never knew existed or could still exist today.

»Mesalands Community College Dinosaur Museum

Although small in stature and size when compared to the country's major natural history museums, the Mesalands Community College Dinosaur Museum has a few notable achievements of its own to tout. Apart from being home to one of the country's first displays of a complete 40 foot long Torvosaurus skeleton, the museum also boasts a collection of bronze skeletons and replicas that is larger than that held by any other museum across the world. Spread over an impressive space of 10,000 square feet, the museum's exhibition room home to numerous displays that focus upon the "Age of Dinosaurs". Each exhibit has been carefully arranged so as to allow visitors to learn more about this mysterious and intriguing chapter of our planet's history. Exhibits include actual fossils and skeletons alongside reproductions of Jurassic creatures and their environments. Although the museum's laboratory is not open to the public, a large window allows them to get a glimpse into the inner workings of the museum as college students and researchers work on fossils and other artifacts just beyond the glass. At the extensive gift shop, visitors can purchase educational materials, clothing, fossils, minerals and other goodies to remember their time at the Mesalands Community College Dinosaur Museum.
