Fort William Historical Park, known as the Old Fort William was a trading center for fur trade in 1815. After the American War of Independence, the British/Canadian fur traders used the site to shun US trade taxes. Today, the monument is well preserved as a historic destination, complete with 42 historic buildings, a recreated Ojibwa village and a farm. It showcases the trade culture of that era. Certain craftsmen like blacksmiths, canoe builders and tradesmen live here. A popular event is the 'Great Rendezvous' that recreates the annual meeting of fur traders and is widely attended by people from Canada and USA.
