Owned and operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this 15,000 acre area is known as one of the better waterfowl hunting reservoirs in the Piedmont of Georgia. The most common ducks on the lake include ring necked ducks, mallards, gadwalls, teal, and wood ducks. Hunting for deer, turkey, fox, bobcat, feral hog, and dove is also available.
Belle Meade Country Club is a semi-prvate golf course that was renovated in 2005 and is open to the public. BMCC is an 18 hole golf course that is enjoyable for all caliber of golfers.
An eighth generation family farm that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this farm is one of the top placement and competitive facilities in the United States and the facilities include sand dressage arenas, cross country courses through the advanced level, and permanent event stabling for 150 horses.
The beauty of Northern Georgia is on display during all seasons at Mistletoe State Park near Appling, Georgia. The park features ten cottages, 92 trailer/tent/RV sites, two primitive backpacking sites, and pioneer camping areas. For day-trippers, four picnic shelters and a group shelter for large gatherings are offered. Mistletoe's lake offers a public ramp and dock, and rental canoes and fishing boats are available for the boat-less among us. A beach, bike trails, and nature trails add to the park's many opportunities for outdoor entertainment.
A. H. Stephens Historic Park is named after former governor of Georgia. Spread over 1177 acres (476 hectares), it illustrates Colonial Revival and Rustic Style of architecture. It also features a museum with Civil War artifacts and memorabilia. The Liberty Hall is a landmark in itself. This park consists of several camping and picnic spots, and swimming pool for recreation.
Head east out of Atlanta for some outdoor fun and recreation. Take Interstate 20 to US-378, and find the park seven miles (12 kilometers) east of the town of Lincolnton. Twenty cottages, 165 tent and trailer sites, and plenty of rugged camping facilities are available, plus 121 picnic sites, five shelters, and a beautiful lake with a full-access boating ramp. Lounge on the beach, try your hand at water skiing, or simply stroll the miles of nature trails and enjoy the fresh air.
