The 800-acre Quemado Lake Recreation Area is located on the northern end of the Gila National Forest at 7,860 feet. It features a 131-acre manmade trout lake with two ADA fishing piers and two boat ramps, campgrounds and hiking trails.
Established in 1870 and located in New Mexico's Grant County, Silver City used to belong to the valiant Apache Natives until the Spanish and English settlers came along and took over the land. Once a busy mining town, now the economy depends heavily on tourism and retired folks who choose to settle here. Nature lovers will delight in the dramatic rock formations, crystal lakes and volcanic eruptions that abound in plenty. Silver City also boasts a rather choc-a-bloc cultural calendar all year round.
