This Hamlet just north of Myrtle Beach proper is a bit truer to the flavor of the town as it was before it became a tourist mecca. Centered on Mineola Ave as it makes a beeline for the waterfront, this little town consists of little more than a few streets and the waterfront along the eponymous inlet. This section of the city features a few nice restaurants and shops, and its cuisine is centered on its reputation as a hub of the crab harvesting season which takes place in late spring and for which the town hosts it world famous Blue Crab Festival each May.
The Cherry Grove Fishing Pier extends 985 feet into the Atlantic Ocean so there is plenty of room for fishing for both serious and casual fishing enthusiasts. For those who don't care to fish, there is a 2-tier viewing deck which provides a magnificent view of the ocean and surrounding area. The biggest tiger shark ever caught was caught at this pier. Other fishing records include a second place king, a first-place sheeps head, and a record whiting.
Cherry Grove Beach is a part of the North Myrtle Beach community. Located along the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, the beach is generally quiet and peaceful, good for a long evening walk on the cool sand. The coastline and the creeks emanating from it are lined with beautiful beach houses and condos. The Cherry Grove Pier was built in the 1950s and is known for its numerous fishing activities and the fishing tradition it has come to be associated with. Today, the pier is a prominent landmark of the city and even has its own gift shop.
The theme of this miniature golf course is that your chartered plane has made an emergency landing on a tropical island. There are two courses: Mayday Mountain and Rescue Falls. A big yellow plane that spews steam constantly rests precariously on Mayday Mountain. The course takes you up and over the mountain and through a cave. Rescue Falls has plenty of tropical plants, a flowing river, a waterfall and a rescue helicopter waiting for you at the end. The Rescue Falls course is handicap accessible. Open every day of the week from 9 am onwards.
La Belle Amie is a lovely place to visit. Located on what used to be a tobacco plantation, the land has been owned by the Bellamy family since the late 1800's. Taste the Belle Amie wines in the Wine Shop or sip a glass while swinging on the porch swing. You can buy Belle Amie wines and gourmet foods to accompany them in the gift store. There are special events and promotions at different times of the year. The vineyard is also a great place to hold a social or business event.
This miniature golf complex has two courses: the Jungle course is filled with exotic trees and African animals, and the signature hole, The Big Hill, is a real challenge; holes-in-one are rare. The Lagoon course reminds you of Hawaii with it banana trees, mountains, caverns, and two beautiful waterfalls that have become popular wedding sites. The view from the top of this course is spectacular, especially at night. Remember your visit with a Jungle Lagoon t-shirt available in the gift shop. Admission prices vary.
