    »Natalie Merchant

    October 21, 2014 8:00 PM

Entering the music scene in 1981 with the group 10,000 Maniacs, Natalie Merchant went on to become a voice for a generation (sorta). Her croon is extremely characteristic and after hearing it people tend to fall in love with her. Though she left the Maniacs in 1993, Merchant has gone on to release a number of solo albums and tour in support of them. Her songs typically center around the soft rock genre and her sorrowful lyrics help to complement the doleful instrumentation quite well.

    »Floating Action [live Recording]

    October 21, 2014 8:30 PM

When Seth Kaufman was foraging throughout his house one day, he discovered an old kick drum pedal he had and decided it was a perfect fit for a band name. Floating Action is from the same fertile grounds in North Carolina as John Coltrane and Thelonious Monk, and plays everything from raw Stax-era soul to intimate folk ballads. The focus of the group is on Kaufman's songwriting, to which the other three members accompany him live. And as Kaufman and his band mates slice deeper through the musical layers of cake of yesteryear, they still manage to create their own unique grooves.

Cabinet is a bluegrass/Americana act from Scranton, Pennsylvania that claims that their music can be described with three essential bywords: soul, simplicity and serious musicianship. Indeed, the band does take its bluegrass quite seriously, and the resulting music shows that Cabinet's six members exude a genuine love for the genre with its soaring harmonies and fast moving rhythms. Since forming in 2006, Cabinet has recently begun to make a name for itself on the national stage, leading many to proclaim the Scranton band to be one of the country's most promising up-and-coming bluegrass acts.

    »Foster The People

    October 23, 2014 7:00 PM

Foster the People is an electro-influenced indie rock band from Los Angeles. Formed in 2009, the band quickly gained momentum with a strong showing at the music festival South by Southwest and the catchy single, "Pumped Up Kicks," which illustrates its proclivity for synth bass hooks, infectious choruses and electropop vibes reminiscent of contemporaries such as MGMT. Thanks to that early buzz, Foster the People was signed to a major label contract and released its debut album in 2011.

After Vanguard Records signed him in 2009, Hall released his fourth studio album, a self-titled effort that debuted on the Billboard 200 Album chart as well as the Heatseeker's chart.

Inspired by rock, jazz, soul and funk, Blueprint uses a diverse set of influences to avoid much of the pigeonholing and stifling genre codes that can sometimes be found in hip-hop. The Columbus, Ohio rapper/producer creates vintage sounding songs full of scratchy vinyl samples, tight, laid-back beats and clever wordplay delivered with his smooth and deliberate flow. Blueprint collaborates with other emcees and DJs often, and is one half of the group Soul Position, along with prominent producer, RJD2. Blueprint also founded the small independent record label, Weightless Recordings to give exposure to up-and-coming rappers and producers in the Ohio area and beyond.
