    »The Flu Season

    July 26, 2014 8:00 PM

It's frightening, it's intoxicating, and it's very funny. "The Flu Season" is a different kind of flu. This smart, absurdist drama reminds us that we all too often talk past each other, without listening. In the story, a man and a woman -- patients in a psychiatric ward -- fall in love. When two characters named Prologue and Epilogue enter the conversation and begin to comment on the story, it's clear that this is no ordinary romance. You, the audience, get a fascinating look into the process of telling a story and why things don't always turn out as the author (or characters) plan. Ambivalent and full of clever wordplay, "The Flu Season" is at once enormously funny and tightly contained. Written by Will Eno, the show won the 2004 Oppenheimer Award for Best New York Debut by an American Playwright. "The New York Times" called Eno "a Samuel Beckett for the Jon Stewart generation."

Soon Beatrice's cousin Hero and her newly betrothed love, Claudio, conspire to trick the combatants into falling in love -- but they've got their own obstacles to deal with on the way to the altar.
