    »Pump Boys and Dinettes

    September 19, 2014 8:00 PM

Get ready for a rousing blend of down-home country, rock and blues in "Pump Boys and Dinettes", a charming musical tale of friendship, romance and life's simple pleasures. At the Double Cupp Diner and neighboring gas station alongside North Carolina's Highway 57, pump boys sell high-octane fuel as sassy sisters Prudie and Rhetta Cupp wait tables next door. Between changing tires and baking pies, the rowdy filling station boys and the "dinettes" get together for songs and other shenanigans. Playing instruments ranging from guitars to the kitchen utensils themselves, they'll belt out such show tune staples as "Farmer Tan" and "The Night Dolly Parton Was Almost Mine." "Pump Boys and Dinettes"' original Broadway production opened in 1982, ran for 573 performances and was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Musical.

Drawing on elements of punk's sub-genres, mainly screamo, Hawthorne Heights manages to combine these sounds with elements of pop, hard rock and emo to create a radio-friendly sound that has gotten fans of pop punk raving.
