Bars & Cafes
Established in 1978, The Mont Restaurant replaced the historically popular The Monterrey that was established in 1920s by the Charles family. A venture by three brothers, The Mont began as a hangout for college kids, but its popularity grew and it soon became a local favorite. If you do not try out the queso, you are definitely missing something. Though favored for their Mexican specialties, the smoked chicken, pulled pork, chicken parmesan and sirloin are equally good. The patio, surrounded by pretty plants, offers a tranquil place to dine in.
The Earth Cafe & Deli distinguishes itself from the myriad eateries of Campus Corner next to the University of Oklahoma in Norman with its inexpensive, healthy food made from high-quality and mostly organic ingredients. With mouthwatering breakfast and lunch menus, you might want to arrive here early during the school year to avoid waiting in line. People from all walks of life come here for the Earth's organic coffees, scrumptious, creative and assorted baked goods, smoothies, fresh juices (carrot, wheatgrass, etc.) and breakfast specials. Their “dragon slayer” shot with lemon juice and cayenne pepper will definitely boost your immune system. The Earth serves up salads, soups and sandwiches in a style they call “Veggie Americana,” with items like veggie dogs topped with veggie chili and Fool Yo' Mama Chicken Salad, (also vegetarian). Their quarter-pounder Uber Burger is famous among Oklahoma vegetarians. Carnivores can enjoy lunch items like tuna or turkey sandwiches. Though super ecologically-conscious, they are never snobby about it. In fact, the “Earthlings” here are quite friendly and very “down-to-Earth!” If you need more organic supplies and groceries, you can direct yourself to the original Earth Natural Foods, located not far away, at 309 South Flood Avenue Norman is about a half-hour drive south on I-35 from Oklahoma City.
Offering live music seven days a week, The Deli is a popular Oklahoma City venue and bar. The place is rather small and dimly lit, yet the variety of awesome local bands makes up for it. Drinks are typically strong and decently priced, with different specials offered throughout the week. Cover charge is usually around USD5.
This Bavarian pub and brewery offers the very best in beer and hearty German cuisine. Dine in a Bavarian farmhouse with cute European decor and friendly service. Try their delicious sausages, and their German sauerkraut is especially tasty. On a hot evening head to their large beer garden where there is usually a live band performing. The brewery makes beer using mostly imported German ingredients to create the very best German beer in the states. If you want to add a touch of whimsy to your night order your beer in a boot instead of a mug.
