Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church
Rea and Carver Avenue
Philadelphia, Mississippi 39350
A monument on the grounds of this church honors the three civil rights workers who were slain in Philadelphia. In 1964, when the men traveled to Mississippi to investigate the burning of a black church, Mt. Nebo was the only congregation that practiced racial equality. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. led a memorial service at Mt. Nebo two years after the slayings.
