»Peoria Scale Model of the Solar System

The Peoria Scale Model of the Solar System still ranks as one of the largest scaled models of the Solar system. The display begins with Lakeview Avenue where the sun is, while the planets and other heavenly bodies are scattered within the radius of 40 miles (64 kilometers). Six planets are spread throughout Peoria while the rest lie in the neighboring cities, as far as Kewanee. Some asteroids have found home in different schools across the country, whereas some comets have been installed in places as far as Swaziland. The first concept of its kind, the mini-solar system, is one of the most visited sites in the region.

The Peoria Zoo is a magnificent zoo site that encompasses a massive 14 acres (5.7 hectares) of land cover. The zoo site was opened for general public viewing in 1955. Earlier known as the Green Oak Zoo, it is primly situated in the Peoria city of Illinois. It presently houses 232 animals and more than a hundred species.
