    »Grayson Capps

    August 22, 2014 8:00 PM

Southern Alabama singer/songwriter Grayson Capps is one of a select few country artists who sings about the blue collar underbelly of his region with out the romanticism that often characterizes popular country music today. Highlighting the crime, poverty, and vagrants of his surrounding community Capps details a grim existence though with an affectionate embrace that positions him as a champion rather than a disparaging critic. In 2004 Capps was asked to contribute an original score to the film A Love Song for Bobby Long starring John Travolta and Scarlett Johansson. In 2010 Capps released a live record from a 2008 performance of his in Amsterdam.

Jake Owen is a country singer/songwriter from Vero Beach, Florida who broke out in 2006 after releasing his debut album, Startin' with Me.Growing up in Florida, Owen was always an adept competitor and planned on pursuing a career as a professional golfer, but after getting in a serious wakeboarding accident that required radical reconstructive surgery, Owen's physical movement was hindered--shattering his dreams of making a living on the golf links. While recovering from his injuries, Owen borrowed a neighbor's guitar and taught himself how to play. Shortly thereafter, he began to perform regularly at bars and music venues around Florida. After moving to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue his music career, Owen was quickly noticed by the record label RCA and released his well received debut LP with the imprint in 2006.

    »Big Deal Burlesque

    August 23, 2014 8:00 PM

Conceived when an older KC Underwood was hired to give high school student Alice Costelloe guitar lessons, Big Deal officially became a band in 2010, when Costelloe had progressed enough in her guitar work. With topics centered around school, and sparse arrangements consisting solely of two guitars and two slightly reverbed voices, the music of Big Deal seems to be innocent and delicate dream pop upon first listen. With further listens, however the evident undertones of lust come through, spawning certain critics to dub Big Deal's music "Lolita pop." Whether this term is complimentary or insulting, the duo still seems to be gaining notoriety in its native London and has consistently been heralded as 'the band to watch.'
