The site of the Dickson Mounds Museum dates back to 800 CE, when it was used as a burial ground. Erected in 1972, it depicts the life of the people who lived in the Illinois River Valley. Located near Lewistown, it is the only museum in United States which has an archaeological site. The museum offers a lot of scope to explore the 12,000 year old human life which was once a part of the valley. Interactive exhibits and fun filled activities make the visit worthwhile. Some of the exhibits include The River Valley Gallery, The People of the Valley and Reflections on Three Worlds. They also host various temporary exhibitions on a regular basis.

»Funk Gem and Mineral Museum

Located near the historic home of the illustrious Lafayette Funk is the Funk Gem and Mineral Museum. It was built between 1973 and 1974 and showcases one of the largest collections of rare gems, minerals, fossils and Indian artifacts by one person. Many of these unique items are not even with the Smithsonian’s and are mostly in their natural state, though there are a few scattered polished ones. Get enthralled by these precious jewels and minerals in the huge hall. Next to the hall are exhibits of the fossils, arts, seashells, corals and saddles. Don't miss out on fluorescent mineral rooms which glows eerily under UV light. Appointments are required to visit the museum.

Since 1968, every fall, the Apple N' Pork Festival has been celebrated with great gusto at this homestead.
