Barrie, ON L4N 7W4
Facing the tranquil waters of Lake Simcoe, the Spirit Catcher stands tall on Barrie's waterfront. Designed by Ron Baird, the Spirit Catcher is inspired by the Thunderbird, a symbol of the local community of Canada's west coast, that is featured in native legends. It was created for the Expo'86 held in Vancouver, and was transported to Barrie in 1987. The Spirit Catcher was handed over to the MacLaren Art Centre
, and dedicated on September 12, 1987. This sculpture pioneered a plan of adorning the city with beautiful art pieces.
