The Rushmore Memorial Library gets its name from the notable attorney Charles E. Rushmore (after whom Mount Rushmore is also named). He was a resident of Woodbury, Highland Mills, where the library is located. This building was erected in 1923 following the World War I with its architecture being based on the American Arts and Crafts Movement. The library still retains many original furnishings like mahogany bookshelves and a stone chimney. It was listed on the National Register of Historical Places in 2008 and is governed by the Town of Woodbury Historical Society. Open all week long, Rushmore Memorial deserves a visit if books and history interest you.
