Dedicated to the civil war hero Major General George Armstrong Custer, who was raised in Michigan in the 1840s, this memorial is an equestrian monument which is also called Sighting The Enemy
. Designed by Edward Clark Potter, the 14 foot (4.26 meters) statue depicts Major General Custer on the horse wearing his Confederate uniform. Located at the curb of Elm Avenue, the monument represents General Custer's sacrifice at the Battle of Gettysburg.
