»GenFKD's Art of the Pitch

April 20, 2015 6:00 PM

GenFKD at Florida State will be hosting a workshop for students on Monday, April 20th that features two up-and-coming entrepreneurs along with three more local entrepreneurs. Stephen Bienko (42 Holdings), Kyle Byrd (Amber), Joab Corey (Renegade Boxing Club), Gabe Grass (GrassLands Brewery), Bruce Manciagli (Resident Social Entrepreneur), will all serve as mentors and will discuss their experiences, along with giving advice to budding entrepreneurs at Florida State. Topics will include, but are not limited to, the stories behind the entrepreneurs businesses, challenges to achieving their goals and an in-depth look at the art of the pitch.  After an engaging fireside chat moderated by GenFKD Fellow Kevin Gomez and Jesse Henry, the mentors will split the audience into smaller groups for a breakout activity, called The GenFKD Dolphin Tank Groups will be instructed to form "off-the-cuff" businesses and pitch these new ventures to their mentor. These activities will involve chaotic creativity, entrepreneurial methodology, and will be followed by a pitch to the "Dolphin Tank" to see if they would invest in their business.  Don't miss the opportunity to engage with influential entrepreneurs and workshop your own pitch skills in an interactive setting. Registration is encouraged, but not required.  Email Spencer Dukoff at spencer@genfkd.com or Kevin Gomez at gomek916@gmail.com with any questions/comments/concerns.   Have questions about GenFKD's Art of the Pitch? Contact GenFKD at Florida State

»The Mowgli's

April 23, 2015

Representative of the sunny beaches of Southern California that it calls home, Los Angeles-based outfit The Mowgli's creates light and breezy tunes in the country folk mold. Formed loosely from a pack of friends who decided to start penning songs together, the band blends retro-minded California soul with stripped-down, acoustic arrangements via guitar, percussion, tambourine and group vocal singalongs. Many of The Mowgli's songs call to mind the classic country rock of groups like the Band and CSNY, yet the group manages to present them in enough of a quaint, modern folk-influenced package to appeal to both older and newer generations.

A few years later, the band assumed two more members, donned the name Black Prairie and became a full-fledged band. With a musical style that incorporates old-style folk, indie rock and Americana, the Portland-based band has impressed a variety of audiences.
