Arts & Museums

»Range Rider's Museum

Spread over multiple buildings, some of which are exhibits in themselves, this charming museum boasts an impressive and unusual collection of artifacts, antiques, historic buildings, tools, vintage cars and much more. The Range Rider's Museum chronicles the region's history through exhibits that cover everything from fossils that can be dated back to the "Age of Dinosaurs" and Native American artifacts, to displays that deal with major achievements in the 21st Century. So extensive is the museum's collection that you could easily spend an entire day scouring through the many rare treasures just waiting to be discovered. Apart from the usual exhibits you may expect to see at a museum, you will also encounter artifacts that you never even knew existed including an 80 pound blob of gumbo that was pulled off the hoof of a calf, a 150 year old donut and several other bizarre pieces donated to the museum over the years.

»Waterworks Art Museum

The Waterworks Art Museum at Miles City is housed within a building that was once a part of the waterworks complex that supplied the city with drinking water for over 60 years. While the building's exterior has remained largely unaltered since its construction in 1910, the interior has been transformed into a contemporary exhibition space. The museum hosts a range of free art exhibitions throughout the year, composed of contemporary and historic pieces from not only their own permanent collection, but also those borrowed from other museums, private collections and traveling exhibits. There are also permanent exhibits featuring L.A. Huffman's stunning photography and a variety of contemporary pieces. Apart from these art exhibitions, the museum also organizes a variety of art classes, educational programs and community events. The building itself has been listed on the National Registry of Historic Places and has received a number of prestigious awards.
