Standing proud for more than a hundred years, the Old Ish statue, as locals call it, has been a landmark in Downtown Ishpeming since its installation in 1884. Built by a mining company from nearby areas, the original arrangement included separate drinking water fountains for humans and animals. The statue depicts a confident looking Ojibwe Native American in full traditional gear at the center of what is called the Old Ish Park. Stretching to an approximate 14 feet (4.26 meters) in height, the Old Ish makes for a great roadside attraction.
