Nestled within the Shot Tower Historical Park, the Jackson Ferry Shot Tower is a shot tower that was utilized to manufacture lead shots to load firearms. Included in the National Register of Historic Places, this landmark can be accessed by tourists along with the surrounding grounds.

The Stone Mountain State Park is a scenic park encompassing an area of 13,747 acres (5563.21 hectares). The main attraction at this park is the Stone Mountain which is a centerpiece of the entire area. The mountain is a 600 feet (183 meter) dome shaped granite belonging to the Devonian age. The park has recreational opportunities like hiking and fishing. The picturesque views that the park has to offer are breathtaking.
Appalachian Ski Mountain is a popular winter sports destination in Watauga County. This historic ski mountain features several ski trails for all skill levels, the longest being the one of 0.5 miles (0.80 kilometers). Activities include skiing, snowboarding, snowmaking and outdoor rink skating. They also offer lodging and dining options.
