A self-proclaimed music nerd, Mike Grubbs began playing the piano at an early age, choosing practice and lessons over video games and baseball daily. After abandoning the classical piano pieces he was taught as a child, instead opting to play Billy Joel and Elton John style tunes, Grubbs began experimenting with his own unique brand of music, which led him to form the band Wakey!Wakey! in 2006. While Grubbs remains the primary singer/songwriter of the group, he plays his contemporary pop songs with a full backing band live. After winning the attention of British favorite James Blunt, Wakey!Wakey! was invited to open for him on tour, which has risen the group to a higher status of recognition than Grubbs initially thought possible.

The Cave Singers is a Seattle-based indie-folk project started by former Murder City Devils and Pretty Girls Make Graves' bassist, Derek Fudesco. Unlike the art punk nature of those groups, the Cave Singers draws on classic country, folk and Americana influences, as well as from current indie rock trends. The songs are often sparse, acoustically-driven and full of harmonies, punctuated by lead singer Pete Quirk's raspy vocals. Since 2007, the band has quietly been releasing understated but effective albums for indie giant, Matador Records.
