    »Zz Top

    October 22, 2014 7:30 PM

The Texas-based blues rock outfit ZZ Top rose to prominence in the early 1970s with its dirty brand of southern rock and wailing guitar solos. After releasing its 1971 debut album, fittingly titled ZZ Top's First Album, the band established its raw, earthy sound and attitude with fuzzy guitars and rollicking rhythms. Each of the band's subsequent releases throughout the decade earned critical acclaim and a fair amount of radio play, proving that the three-piece band's Texas drawls and dirty jokes resonated with fans outside of the Lone Star State. ZZ Top continues to release its bluesy southern rock music and remains one of the most easily identifiable acts around with two of its three members sporting bushy, chest-length beards.

Small Reactions emerged out of East Atlanta Village, GA in 2011 with a sound it describes as nerve pop. Channeling elements of new wave, surf rock and post punk through a minimal filter, the band took its time developing its sound and a local following before singing with Bear Kids Recordings and releasing its debut album Similar Phantoms, in 2014.

    October 24, 2014 10:00 PM

Folk Soul Revival is a harmony drenched, boot stomping, rowdy, rootsy Americana band from the Appalachian mountain region of Virginia/Tennessee.FSR has just released their third album 'Prompting The Dapperness.'The completely fan funded release (following a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign) returns to the formula that has continued to make the band so endearing- strong songwriting, sing along melodies, impassioned vocals and most of all honest music that resonates deep within the listener. There's a reason the band has such a loyal fan base ('The Congregation') and garners accolades wherever they travel. In 2010, the band's second album 'Words Off the Tongue' was ranked among the Top 15 Albums of the Year by No Depression magazine. 'Prompting the Dapperness' reached #12 on the iTunes country charts and #99 on the overall charts on the day of its release, and has already charted on BillboardMagazine's Heatseekers Charts at #10 (South Atlantic division.) In 2011, the Virginia Tourism Board awarded FSR the Virginia Band of the Year and in 2012, and readers of Virginia Living Magazine named the band among the Top Three bands in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter and actor Gregory Porter is a jazz vocalist who got his start performing in local jazz clubs in San Diego. While attending San Diego State University on a football scholarship, Porter was sidelined by an injury and began to focus on his singing when he met his future mentor and friend Kamau Kenyatta, a composer, pianist and saxophonist who played a significant role in Porter's music career. In 1994 Porter was cast in a leading role in the musical It Ain't Nothin' But the Blues, which eventually made its way to Broadway, despite having little acting or theater experience. As a resident performer at Smoke Jazz & Supper Club in New York City, Porter frequents other jazz nights around the city and continues to record music, such as his 2010 debut Water and his 2012 follow-up Be Good.
