Evangeline Oak Park, named after the Evangeline Oak, is a park that surrounds a tree that has probably got more tourist attention than any other tree. On the banks of the Bayou Teche, it is said that an Acadian girl named Evangeline came here looking for her lover and this point is where her boat landed. The tree and the story are mentioned in a famous poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, which inevitably increased its popularity. The area around the park is historic to the Acadians and so the park was widened to include other Acadian interests.
