Located in Kamloops, the Secwepemc Museum and Heritage Park aims to preserve the history and culture of the Shuswap people. The museum has a host of exhibits with artifacts as well as historic photographs tracing the culture of the Secwepemc People. The 12 acre (five hectare) heritage park has a trail that contains the remains of a 2000-year-old village site.
The Kamloops Art Gallery, opened in 1978, is one of the many art galleries in Canada showcasing and promoting regional and contemporary art. Its prime focus is the promotion of art in the society. It hosts as much as 25 different exhibitions annually on various subjects. It has a gift gallery which sells souvenirs and other artifacts. Housing three floors, Kamloops Museum and Archives features an extensive collection of exhibits that give visitors a deeper insight into the history and culture of Kamloops. The displays include communication tools, garments, agriculture and industrial equipments, artifacts related to the trade and commerce, the gold rush era and the region's physiography.
