The permanent collection at this museum is comprised of over twenty thousand pieces that have artistic or historical significance, including over three hundred paintings and sketches by regional landscape painter August Will, as well as great collection of historic artifacts and photographs that reflect the history of the region; in addition, changing exhibits bring wonderful art collections from other times and places to Jersey City.
The Visual Arts Gallery in Chelsea near the Starrett-Lehigh building, is a modern art facility. It has a vast area including four cutting edge galleries. You could also venture onto the terrace...or do a little sight seeing as the gallery overlooks Lower Manhattan and Hudson River. The Visual Arts Gallery is one of a kind because it allows outstanding students to sell their work along side famous artists.
The 303 is not your regular gallery, so if you think your visit is going to be boring, you are wrong! This place hosts solo and group exhibitions and at times even art fairs. Sue Williams, David Thorpe and Edgar Bryan are some of the world famous artists who have displayed their works here. Laylah Ali gave her first solo show here in February, 2005.
