Outdoor Activities

»Cape Disappointment State Park

Home to two lighthouses, North Head and Cape Disappointment, Cape Disappointment State Park sits on the edge of the Pacific coast in Washington marking the entrance to the Columbia River. Ferocious winds and rough waters approaching the river mouth made it necessary to have two lighthouses in such close proximity. For one keepers wife, its said the winds were so ferocious and deafening that she threw herself over the edge of the cliff and now reportedly haunts the area. Come and see for yourself if the place is haunted or just enjoy the breathtaking views and the lush old-growth forest.

»Wolf Haven International

Just south of Olympia, you will find one of the more remarkable animal habitats on the whole West Coast. This deceptively small patch of land plays host to a number of wounded and orphaned wolves. The facility nurses them back to health for release into the wild. The "Howl-In" is held Friday and Saturday evenings at 6:30pm during the summer. The show features storytelling, singing and a howling contest. Admission to the preserve is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors/military personnel/students and $6 for kids.
