»San Fermin

January 30, 2015

San Fermin is the musical project of Brooklyn-based artist Ellis Ludwig-Leone. Classically trained in music composition, he isolated himself for six weeks in the mountains between Alberta and British Columbia after graduating from Yale and eventually emerged with his eponymous debut album as San Fermin in 2013. Along with various contributors such as Holly Laessig of Lucius and his long-time friend Allen Tate, Ludwig-Leone captured a baroque pop sound filled with themes of youth, anxiety and nostalgia.

»Charlie Mars "The Money"

January 30, 2015 8:00 PM

Mississippi singer/songwriter Charlie Mars sings acoustic-led pop music, combining southern rock and blues elements. Mars ditched his musical career at one point to recover from alcohol and drug addiction in Sweden where he lived on a house boat and wrote music. Upon returning to the US, Mars has pursued a more independently-driven career as opposed to the more commercial one that he was leading before his trip to Sweden. Mars' music also employs some hip-hop and electronic sounds, particularly on his 2009 album Like A Bird, Like A Plane.

»Orson's Shadow

January 30, 2015 8:00 PM

Orson Welles directing Laurence Olivier in an absurdist drama sounds like a genius "SNL" sketch, but the production really did occur in London in 1960. "Orson's Shadow" is a sharp-witted but tender-hearted re-imagining of that fateful production, one involving not only "England's Finest Actor" and "America's Greatest Director" but Vivien Leigh, Joan Plowright and the great critic Kenneth Tynan. Egos rampage during this backstage drama that captures the English-speaking world's greatest talents struggling to master not only the play, but their art and their own enormous personalities. Seth Ghitelman directs "Orson's Shadow", a witty and incisive depiction of the drama of theater and life itself, at Silver Spring Stage.
