Amherst College is the oldest college in Massachusetts, having been around since 1821. Amherst has 33 different areas of study and students can enjoy a fairly open curriculum. The University of Massachusetts Amherst is the flagship of the University of Massachusetts system. Located within the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Mullins Center is a multi-utility event space that holds a seating capacity of 10,500. Besides hosting cultural events, plays, concerts and conferences, the Mullins Center also hosts matches and practice sessions for the University of Massachusetts' sports teams. Hampshire isn't your "ordinary" college. Started in the 1960's, Hampshire is well known for its alternative curriculum. This alternative curriculum includes such features as student designed concentrations, interdisciplinary curriculum, and narrative evaluations (instead of traditional grades). Some strong Hampshire programs include theater, film and visual arts, and produces the most students who go on to earn doctorate degrees in history.
Exciting activities await you at Three County Fairgrounds. Formed with the intention of promoting agriculture, agricultural education and agricultural science in the Commonwealth, the Three County Fairgrounds have something to offer adults, children and even the aged. For starters, you can have some fun with live "thoroughbred racing." There is also an annual fair where you can enjoy the merry-go-rounds. Have some of your favorite food here and mingle with the crowd. You never know, you might just meet some interesting people who can make your day a memorable one!
Along with Iron Horse Music Hall, Calvin Theatre and The Basement, Pearl Street Nightclub is one of the musical venues of the Iron House Entertainment Group. Situated in Downtown Northampton, this is a club that gives you lots of great live music by the likes of Badfish: A Tribute to Sublime and G-Eazy to enjoy. Standing-room only, the venue does not permit the entry of children under the age of six. A full bar is available, and credit cards are not accepted.

The Basement (formerly known as Bishop's Lounge) is an intimate music venue in Northampton that caters to the Valley's indie music followers. There are weekly shows, DJs and special guests throughout the year, but the schedule really gains momentum when school is in session and students from the region's many colleges show up for rock shows.
Iron Horse Music Hall gives all music lovers a reason to smile. With the motto of 'Music Alone Shall Live', this place brings many bands, musicians and singers under one roof. The hall is especially known for gigs in classical chamber music, jazz, country and folk music. Large crowds are enticed by popular acts by artistes like Suzanne Vega, Stanley Jordan, George Winston and many others. The hall is managed by Iron Horse Entertainment Group.
The Parlor Room is a small space at the headquarters of Signature Sounds Recordings, and it has been used to demonstrate the kind of music the label deals with. With a capacity of just about 50 people, this intimate venue hosts concerts by artists associated with the label, and even some by others. You can stop by to catch indie, Americana, rock and folk artists in action, and don't forget to bring your own beer and wine!
