»Academy Of St. Martin In The Fields With Jeremy Denk

March 28, 2015 8:00 PM

The Academy of St. Martin in the Fields (also spelled in hyphenated form as "Martin-in-the-Fields") is a chamber orchestra based in London, England that was founded by revered British conductor Sir Neville Marriner in 1959. The ensemble started out as a conductor-less string group originally welcomed some of London's most accomplished players who did not get along with the major conductors of the time, and soon the orchestra grew to become one of those most celebrated "divisive" chamber ensembles London ever produced. Based in the Trafalgar Square church St. Martin-in-the-Fields, the Academy has done much to not only advance the importance of small ensembles in classical music performance today, but has also done much to spark a resurgence of interest in Baroque music throughout the world.

»Dave Hause (Of The Loved Ones)

March 28, 2015 10:00 PM

As a member of the Philadelphia outfit Loved Ones, Dave Hause's background is firmly rooted in punk rock. With his solo work, however, Hause plays an acoustic, indie folk-inspired style that is similar in sound and spirit to other punk rock vocalists who have tried their hand at the solo circuit, like Matt Skiba (Alkaline Trio) and Joey Cape (Lagwagon). Hause's debut LP, Resolutions, was released in 2011 and he continues to tour regularly as both a solo artists and as member of Loved Ones.

»Call To Consciousness

March 28, 2015 10:00 AM

A Call to Consciousness: Transforming Awareness into Action. Through the organization Rap Sessions, this event will bring together a group of performers and activists who will serve as panelists and help to facilitate workshops regarding the issues that are most important to our campus and the surrounding community. The event will be hosted by C.A.U.S.E. and both C.A.U.S.E. members and student activists who traveled to Ferguson this past fall will help facilitate a self-care workshop and teach-in at the beginning of the day. In the afternoon, the panelists will gather to begin discussing our community concerns -- including how to have productive conversations about race at Mount Holyoke, the high school drop-out rate in Springfield, and gentrification in Holyoke to name a few. Additionally, the performers, political hip hop duo Rebel Diaz, will put on a concert the night after the workshops.

»Coal Chamber

March 28, 2015 4:00 PM

Coal Chamber is an alternative metal act from Los Angeles that is best known for its contributions to the establishment of a darker-themed brand of nu-metal. After spending several years trying to gain a foothold on the burgeoning LA alternative metal scene, Coal Chamber released its eponymous debut album in 1997 to unprecedented critical acclaim, and would later be named as the band's most successful album. Having then established itself as one of the premier acts performing in the nu-metal genre, Coal Chamber made the dubious decision to begin branching out into other sub-genres of metal with their subsequent releases, taking a more listener-friendly and melodic approach to metal that was generally well received by audiences and critics. In 2003, Coal Chamber disbanded when its lead singer decided to pursue an opportunity with another band. However, as of 2011, the band has reunited and is looking forward to continuing where they left off.
