Along the Aransas Bay, in the harbor city of Port Aransas, you will find a haven for fishing: Woody's Sports Center. At first, as you pass by the center, you might miss it, as it resembles a residential apartment . But there, by the house, is a sign assuring you that the place is indeed Woody's Sports Center. Here you will find everything you will need for a hassle-free fishing adventure. They also have live bait on offer and charter boats that will take you around the bay or even beyond for a fishing trip. Besides fishing, the center also offers jet-skis for rent, parasailing and boat rides. This tiny red and blue surf shack sits in the middle of Port Aransas. The guys from Island Surf Rentals are knowledgeable and super friendly. They'll hook you up with everything you need for a fun day out on the beach, from surf boards to bikes and from boogie boards to beach buggies. Prices are very fair when compared to other places on the island. Inside there's a little retail shop selling memorabilia and sunglasses.
Originally founded by Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1937 as a place where local birds as a breeding ground for migratory birds, the refuge is a great sanctuary for just about anyone that wants to leave it all behind. Here the main attraction is bird watching, the Corpus Christi area is well-known for its great diversity and quantity of local birds. If birds don't interest you, perhaps looking for a white-tailed deer, armadillo or an American alligator is a bit more challenging.
