An old tunnel established in 1913 for the benefit of a railroad service was rendered obsolete when its owners sold off the project. It is here that a colony of about three million bats found home, where now, tourists flock to view scores of the winged mammals flying out at twilight. Interestingly, a species of hawk that feeds on these bats have also since populated and thrived in the surrounding areas. Now called Old Tunnel Wildlife Management Area, the site is a much sought after tourist spot in Frederiksburg.
Friends of then-President Johnson, pruchased thes property directly across the Pedernales River from the prisident's JBJ Ranch and donated it to the Texas Parks, and Wildlife Commission, which created the park in recognition of Johnson as a "national and world leader." This park depicts the story of Lydon Johnson and features a permanent exhibit gallery that contains artifacts and exhibits that showcase his life and accomplishments. A preserved 1960's working cattle ranch is also located in the park, as well as Johnson's boyhood home.
Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park is located at Blanco County, Texas and Gillespie County, Texas, USA. Theis park is the birthplace, home, ranch, and final resting place of Lyndon B. Johnson. There are two visitor area in the National park: Johnson City and the LBJ Ranch. It is spread over 1,570 acres (6.4 square kilometers) and this park saw over 1,10,000 visitors on 2012 C.E.
