    Camel Arena in Virginia City is where the city gathers to see the camels make it to the finish line.The Camel Races were once a fictitious event created by a Virginia City newspaper editor to fill up space in the news-starved periodical. In 1960, Hollywood director John Houston decided to make the races a reality, importing the animals from the San Francisco Zoo. Since that time, the camel races have been an annual September event.
