The National Civil War Naval Museum at Port Columbus is distinguished as being the lone museum in U.S. that describes the tale of the Union and Confederate navies during the Civil War. It contains American Civil War military vessels, uniforms, equipment and weapons of that period. But the main focal point is the 180-foot (55 m) hull of the CSS Jackson which was sunk during the Civil War and recovered from the bed of the Chattahoochee river in the 1960s. The guided tours are highly informative and there is a museum shop to look for mementos. The museum also regularly arranges for interactive events like the battle experience theater and an interactive Confederate ironclad ship simulator.
As the name alludes, this museum is a dedication to an important aspect of a student's backpack, the lunch box. Located within International Marketplace's River Market Antique Mall, the Lunch Box Museum features over 2000 of these food containers, from the early 20th-century metal boxes to present day plastic kits. Allen Woodall's fascination with these lesser appreciated accessory led him to establish this museum. Guests can even purchase a replication of a box on display.
