Arts & Museums
Fittingly located on the banks of Mississippi River, National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium is one of the most visited attractions in Dubuque. The museum comprises all those things you would expect from a museum dedicated to a river. Numerous water animals like catfish, sturgeon and turtles from the river are found inside the six giant aquariums. The premises of the museum houses the historic William M. Black steamboat, and other artifacts. Apart from these attractions, the museum also hosts various activities that are favorites among the kids visiting this place. Students can learn about the ecology through 3D/ 4D films showed at the National River Center, which was added to the existing museum in 2010. So, take some time out for your kids, and visit this amazing natural history museum to know what lies beneath the surface of the river.
Established in 1874, the Dubuque Museum of Art is Iowa's oldest cultural institution.
Housed in an 1858 mansion, the museum offers special exhibits featuring Grant and the Civil War, mining, steam boating, clothing, geology, toys, dolls, and agriculture.
Built of native limestone, this century-old residence overlooking the Mississippi River and Lock and Dam 12 contains 10 rooms and is fully furnished with turn-of the century antiques. Items you will see include an ornate clock made in 1881, muzzle loading rifles, an early American cradle, genuine Oriental rugs, and china.
