»Fourplay

April 18, 2015 7:00 PM

The quartet Fourplay is a contemporary jazz band that was formed in 1991. The band's R&B and pop flavored jazz has made Fourplay successful both commercially and creatively since its self-titled debut was released in 1991, which held the number on spot for 33 weeks on Billboards Contemporary Jazz Chart. The band's original line-up has only made replacements of the guitarist, keeping the core group of Bob James on keyboards, Nathan East on bass and Harvey Mason on drums in tact. The band members were recognized as distinguished contributors to the music industry upon receiving the Congressional Record from the United States House of Representatives. Twelve albums deep, including the 2010 release Let's Touch the Sky, Fourplay continues to break grounds in jazz sub-genres, exploring new ways of compositions and playing styles while still appealing to mainstream jazz fans.

»Sweet Southern Soul - Royal Southern Brotherhood

April 18, 2015 7:30 PM

Led by New Orleans-born funk vocalist and percussionist Cyril Neville of The Meters and Texas-born blues-rock guitarist Devon Allman of The Honeytribe and The Allman Brothers Band, Royal Southern Brotherhood had an audience well before it formed in 2011. The band's all-star lineup, which also includes guitarist and vocalist Mike Zito, combines its chosen sounds to create a brand of southern rock that justifies its gaudy name. Royal Southern Brotherhood uses elements of rock and roll, soul, R&B and of course funk and blues to create its seasoned southern sound.

Hailing from the west African country of Benin, Lionel Loueke is a jazz guitarist who started off playing African pop music before discovering and falling for the jazz guitar stylings of George Benson. After making his way through The Ivory Coast, Paris, Boston and eventually Southern California while studying at different music and art institutes, he began playing with trumpeter Blanchard. Loueke was featured on two of the brass man's records, 2003's Bounce and 2005's Flow. These albums kick-started his prolific career as a sideman, which would lead him to collaborations with iconic artists such as Santana and Sting. Loueke dropped his debut album as band leader, In a Trance, in 2005, and has since continued to release records both as a front man and as a sideman.

»Cavalera Conspiracy

April 18, 2015 6:30 PM

Brazilian heavy metal band Cavalera Consiracy was formed in 2007, a year that marked the end of Max and Igor Cavalera's ten-year feud. The brothers originally founded the band Sepultra in the 1980s but parted ways after management disagreements. While the two musicians were both working on different musical projects, Max invited Igor to play with his band Soulfly and then after the show, suggested that the they begin a new band. With Soulfly guitarist Marc Rizzo and the lead singer of Gojira Joe Duplantier on bass, Max and Igor recorded Cavalera Conspiracy's debut album Inflikted, released in 2008. The band followed the album with the "Ikfliktour" tour of Europe, during which it demonstrated its sound as combination of hardcore punk and Sepultura-esque death and groove metal guitar solos. Duplantier's commitments to Gojira kept him from touring with Cavalera Conspiracy so he was replaced by Fireball Ministry bassist Johny Chow, who contributed to Cavalera Conspiracy's second album Blunt Force Trauma, released in 2011.
