Marquette Hotel was one of Cape Girardeau landmarks till it closed in the 1970s. After reopening, the structure serves as a commercial building with many state offices and is know referred to as Marquette Tower. Its Spanish Colonial Revival facade is lovely to look at while the interiors have changed to accommodate various businesses.
Situated inside the Cape Girardeau's North County Park, the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center showcases all of the natural resources that the state of Missouri has to offer. This free-for-all conservation center was established in the year 2005 after painstaking efforts of private donors and government agencies. The center boasts of an aquarium, an auditorium, a research laboratory, in addition to interactive facilities like the popular Fishing Pond for kids. For adults, the center has hiking trails that run through the forest which is home to many migratory birds. The on-site gallery has a collection of primitive farming and hunting tools. This is an ideal spot for an outdoor visit for schools, colleges as well as for families who wish to get their children acquainted with various nuances of nature.
