    Smash Mouth is an alternative rock band that emerged out of San Jose, California in 1994. Incorporating elements of pop punk, ska, new wave and rap into its sound, the band released it debut album Fush Yu Mang, in 1997, catching national attention with the singles "Walkin' on the Sun" and a cover of War's "Why Can't We Be Friends." Smash Mouth catapulted itself to the top of the mainstream rock charts with its subsequent 1999 album Astro Lounge, which offered a stronger pop sensibility and less ska influences with tracks such as "All Star." Though the band has since lost much of its commercial appeal,founders Steve Harwell and Paul De Lisle remain at the helm of the project and continue to release Smash Mouth albums including the band's seventh studio album, 2012's Magic.

    Justin Hayward is a singer/songwriter and musician from England who is best known as the front-man and guitarist of the rock band The Moody Blues. After over a decade of playing and releasing music with The Moody Blues, he released his acoustically-driven debut album,Songwriter, in 1977 while his band was on what would be a four year hiatus. During this time, Hayward collaborated with various artists, including The Moody Blues bassist John Lodge, who he joined as a duo to drop the critically and commercially acclaimed album,Blue Jays, in 1975. Even though The Moody Blues reunited in 1977, Hayward continued to release his own folk-tinged material, from his 1980 studio albumNight Flight, to 2013's Spirits of the Western Sky.

    »Focus Exhibition: Lockwood De Forest’s The Wreck

    Lockwood De Forest (1850-1932) was an artist who was a well-traveled man and son of a wealthy family. His famous painting The Wreck has been exhibited many times, three times alone in 1880 - at The Century Association, the National Academy of Design in New York City and at the Louisville Industrial Exhibition in Kentucky. The Wreck thematizes life and death in a desert setting. This circle of life is timeless and the skill with which De Forest used his brush and commitment of colors makes the painting seem alive.

This nearly forgotten instrument to write and create with ink changed much between 1875 and 1975, not only in shape, material and nip, but in design and color as well. A large variety of different designs and styles are shown at this exhibition, which is divided into three time periods.

    Kate Greenaway, Eulalie Osgood Grover and Mary Dow Brine were all authors of children's books from the early 1900s. During this period, beauty and attention to design was evident everywhere, including in the illustrations of children's literature. The intention was to impress upon children an idea of how life should look. Lullaby and Goodnight - Children’s Literature from the Morse Collection exhibits, in addition to the work of the three famous authors, different glassware, ceramics and dolls from the same period.

    »George Catlin’s American Buffalo

    George Catlin (1796-1872), an American painter, specialized in portraits and scenes of the daily lives of the American Indian tribes. He traveled a lot to document the culture of the different tribes, becoming one of the first persons of European descent to travel beyond the Mississippi River. 1830 George Catlin crossed the Great Plains no less than three times to immortalize 140 American Indian tribes through his art.

    Taos, New Mexico has attracted many artists with its beauty and mixture of Tao Pueblo Indian and Hispanic culture. Out of this mixture, the first art colony in the American West arose. Local Taos artists Joseph Henry Sharp, Bert Geer Phillips, Oscar E. Berninghaus, W. Herbert Dunton, E. Irving Couse and Ernest Blumenschein formed this society to be able to market their paintings in the East as well as locally. Many other artists joined the Taos Society of Artists since its foundation in 1915 and they have now become one of the best known art colonies in America. The exhibition features a selection of artwork created over the decades by the society.
