Nestled in Croom, Saint Thomas' Episcopal Church is one of the oldest churches in Maryland. The construction of the church began in 1743, and was completed two years later in 1745. It was designed by Daniel Page in the Gregorian style, and was known as the 'Page Chapel' until the mid-19th Century. Thomas John Clagett, the first Episcopal Bishop of Maryland, served at this church. In 1888, a bell tower was added in his name. The 19th Century also saw Victorian architectural additions made to the Gregorian structure.

The church was built in 1818, and designed by famed architect Benjamin Latrobe in what is now an excellent example of Gothic Revival architecture. The church features three equal arches at its entrance, and parts of the church have undergone minor modifications over the years.
