    Home of the Colorado Rockies Triple-A farm team, the Sky Sox, this intimate 6,000-seat stadium is a great venue for seeing some of baseball's future stars up close. All the seats afford good field views, and all are prime spots for catching a souvenir foul ball. Try to snare a seat on the stadium's third base side and prepare to be awed by a stunning Colorado sunset over the Rocky Mountains. There are plenty of fan promotions throughout the season and fireworks after each game. Parking is generous and close.

    »Pine Creek Golf Course

    The fact that this course is located on Divot Trail is a good indication that this is one hardcore golf course. Rumor even has it that this course, which is rated as one of the top 10 courses in Colorado, has caused many golfers to crumble to their knees and weep openly. The first seven holes of the back nine are either bordered or divided by water, with the 16th hole providing a golfing exclamation point with a green surrounded by traps and lakes. Tee times can be reserved three days in advance.

    »Peterson Air & Space Museum

    Anyone with an interest in mechanical things that leave the ground will enjoy this museum. It is located in the original art deco-styled Colorado Springs Passenger Terminal Building. With its military setting, it looks exactly like one of those buildings used in 1950s sci-fi movies when horrible, giant ants terrorized man. The focus of the museum is on early aviation history, with an emphasis on World War II. Since it is inside Peterson Air Force base, you will need identification to enter and access is restricted. Entry to the museum is free.

    Colorado Springs boasts off excellent parks and recreation spaces, the Fox Run Regional Park being one of them. This vast stretch of greenery features well-maintained lawns and lovely ponds.     If you lack the time to wander into the mountains for a hike, this city park provides a quick and surprisingly bucolic alternative. Hiking, biking and horseback riding trails fan throughout the park's foliage-thick hills and bluffs. Some portions of the trails yield little hint that downtown is just minutes away. In addition, there are plenty of baseball, softball and soccer fields, as well as volleyball courts. Picnic shelters and restrooms make it conducive for summer gatherings.

    Minerals, the lure of the west, are now the lure of this museum. Featuring four buildings in a park-like setting, it provides a window to the world of mining. It includes over 4000 mining items like steam engines, drills, picks and pans, early photographs and even a stable of live burros. In this hands-on museum, kids can try their luck at panning for gold. There are tables for picnics and plenty of RV parking.

    Colorado Springs is veined with numerous bike paths that all seem to lead to one of its many attractions or parks. It is a fact that is not lost on this pedal-power shop, which rents mountains bikes, by the half day, full day and weekend. Note, however, that it does not rent kid's bikes or road bikes. Bike paths leading to the United States Air Force Academy are conveniently located right outside the shop's doors. Bike clothing, maps, and top-name road, mountain and BMX bikes are all for sale.

    This museum documents rodeo's 19th-century genesis, when it was a cowboy's way of life, to the business and sport it is today. Multimedia presentations and display cases featuring trophies, gear and photos dominate the museum. The Hall of Champions showcases rodeo greats, announcers and clowns. The outside rodeo arena features live rodeo animals. An on-site gift shop shelves all sorts of books, collectibles and music.

    Conveniently located in Memorial Park, this indoor ice rink offers year round skating. The ice schedule, which changes monthly, includes public skating, figure skating sessions and adult drop-in hockey. Beginners will find it easy to learn how to skate in a rink environment, for the boards are great to cling to while learning how to balance. Lessons for youth hockey players are provided as well. The rink also sponsors special evening skating events such as Family Night and Teen Night. Rental skates are available.

    This 193-acre park offers more recreation and entertainment options than most cruise ships. Besides the usual park offerings of tennis courts, ball fields, jogging paths and picnic shelters, it also offers swimming, fishing and sailing on Prospect Lake, as well as year round ice skating and hockey in the Sertich Ice Center. The park also plays host to the Colorado Balloon Classic and the annual 4th of July Celebration. Picnic shelters can be reserved in advance for family picnics and such.

    This alpine school redefines the term of "higher" learning, and, unlike this bad pun, receives strong praise. Well-trained guides can teach you the skills and techniques needed to scale cliffs of ice, ski the back country and mountain climb. Rock climbing lessons, its most popular offering, usually take place on the rocks at Garden of the Gods and are open to all skill levels. Private lessons are given and all equipment is provided. Also popular are guided technical and non-technical Pikes Peak climbs.
