»Eating Disorders and Nutrition: Challenges In The Dietitians World

We invite you to join us for an engaging discussion of the challenges dietitians face in working with eating disorders. This talk will address various nutritional issues and how others on the treatment team can help collaborate with dietitians. Meal plans, trigger foods, and handling psychological issues in sessions will be examined, as well as the role of the therapist in bridging the gap between the patient and the dietitian.    Melissa Preston, MA, NCC, RD is a counselor and registered dietitian in private practice in the Denver, Colorado. She received her Bachelors in Nutrition from Colorado State University, and her Masters in Counseling from the University of Colorado, Denver. Melissa provides a fusion of counseling and nutrition in her practice as she works primarily with people with eating disorders and food addictions. In addition to her private practice, she facilitates the Body Image Group at the Eating Disorder Foundation in Denver. She strives to be an advocate for people with eating disorders and body image struggles, and is a guest speaker at local universities, high schools, and conferences. In addition, Melissa writes a blog about topics related to eating disorders, body image, and the social influences that lead to eating disorders. Alynda Lee Segarra was a vagrant train hopper before she decided to settle in Louisiana at the age of 18. While traversing the country, she would write songs to keep herself occupied on the open road. When she was finally able to plant her feet down in a single area she managed to find three other like-minded individuals and together they formed Hurray for the Riff Raff. Segarra sings with a deep voice against gentle accompaniments from unique instruments like the banjo, accordion and cello on the group's 2010 debut Young Blood Blues.
