An annual festival, the African Street Festival celebrates the African heritage of West Tennesseans. It features vendors selling a variety of African clothing, arts, crafts, and gourmet foods. Live African dancing and music is also included. Held in September.
Ned R. McWherter West Tennessee Cultural Arts Center is a prestigious landmark on Jackson’s entertainment scene. Located in downtown, it is popularly known as The Ned and plays host to an array classical and contemporary performing arts. This 2,200 square-foot (204 square-meter) space is equipped with a cutting-edge light and sound system and a 440-seat auditorium. It provides an intimate backdrop for musicals, choirs, orchestra and stage productions, and has featured the likes of Kathy Mattea, Don McLean and Eileen Ivers.
