Bars & Cafes
This restaurant takes its name after a fictitious character that was always able to get out of a scrape and bring home his big-game trophy. After a few minutes here, you can almost hear his braggadocios British drawl as he spins a yarn about one of the many mounts that watch you dine from the walls. A massive assortment of locally inspired dishes shares space on the vast menu with exotic entrees. Try the Mixed Grill of Game (USD26.95), which offers an assortment of ostrich, duck and wild boar sausage with a selection of sauces.
It's a pure country and western type of atmosphere here at this massive steakhouse. The dining room seats more than 200 guests and the bar regularly hosts celebrity guest bartenders. Since this is a steakhouse, most of the sides are carbohydrate rich and not on your cardiologist's favorites list. Needless to say, almost everything on the menu comes from the cow, yet there are still some fish and chicken options.
This wonderful little cafe is located in the Quality Inn, and if you are looking for great food in a relaxed atmosphere, this is the place to go. The menu includes a number of appetizers and salads if you are looking for something on the lighter side. For something heavier, try one of the gourmet pizzas, which come with your choice of toppings for less than $10. In addition, the hamburgers here are some of the best in town. The lounge is a great place to stop after a show at the nearby IMAX Entertainment Complex or Shoji Tabuchi Theatre.
Ernie Biggs Dueling Piano Bar brings the liveliness of the piano to this part of the Ozarks. However, it isn't always pianos, because on certain nights, Ernie provides DJs or other entertainment. The drink specials run all week long with barkeeps that can mix up a strong drink. Ernie also serves pub grub like sandwiches, burgers and fries. From Thursday to Saturday the bar closes in the wee hours of the morning and all other days it closes at midnight. Check website for calendar of performers and events.
The Library Lounge of Missouri's only AAA Four-Diamond Hotel, the Chateau on the Lake, has been a local hot spot since opening in 1997. The evening gathering place is just off the resort's 10-story lobby, and has undergone a $600,000 makeover. This warm, relaxing environment includes a beautiful stone fireplace and comfortable chairs where one can socialize with friends or curl up with a good book.
