Restaurants

»Florentina's Ristorante Italiano

At Florentina's, diners really get their money's worth. With massive portions made for two, it's always nice when you can get two meals for the price of one. On the menu, guests will find all of the familiar favorites like calamari, bruschetta, ravioli, antipasti, salads and the interesting 'Italian Nachos' made with crispy pasta, cheese, chicken, olives and peppers. Additionally, the kitchen prepares almost every pasta that has ever emanated from the 'Boot' and if it isn't on the menu, the chefs can probably make it. The spumoni here is also worth mentioning, because it's probably the only place in Branson that serves it as close to authentic as possible.

»Cakes-n-Creams 50's Diner & Dessert Parlor

This popular sweet shop is a great place to visit after a show, or for that matter, any time your sweet tooth begins to ache. The interior is decorated in 1950s Americana, complete with a Wurlitzer jukebox. In addition to a variety of ice-cream, the shop sells pies, cobblers and cakes made with fresh fruit. However, the real draw here is the soda fountain, where dozens of flavors confound your ability to decide what you want. Hard ice cream is also available in more than 50 flavors, and the banana splits are excellent.

The staff is made up of aspiring actors, singers, musicians and songwriters, and it is not uncommon for one or a group of them to break into song and dance as they cavort around the tables. The menu is themed as well, featuring selections such as Cheese Release Me, a grilled cheese sandwich with all the trimmings for $5.29. Try the Love Me Tender Fried Steak for $8.59. A complete soda fountain lines the back wall with more than 15 flavors of soda and over 25 flavors of ice cream.

»Buckingham's Restaurant and Oasis

This restaurant takes its name after a fictitious character that was always able to get out of a scrape and bring home his big-game trophy. After a few minutes here, you can almost hear his braggadocios British drawl as he spins a yarn about one of the many mounts that watch you dine from the walls. A massive assortment of locally inspired dishes shares space on the vast menu with exotic entrees. Try the Mixed Grill of Game (USD26.95), which offers an assortment of ostrich, duck and wild boar sausage with a selection of sauces.

»Mel's Hard Luck Diner

This spot is the home of the 'Singing Servers', where diners hear the professional, yet sometimes warbling waiters and waitresses belt out classic music from the American songbook. In fact, most of the singers/servers were ex-performers in various shows around town before arriving at Mel's. As far as the food is concerned, the menu has the usual burgers, fries and milkshakes in addition to a few anomalies like meatballs with toast or fried pickles. The decor is reminiscent of a 50's diner with neon lights and checkerboard prints and if you enjoy live a capella with your meal, then this is definitely the place to come.

»Delectable Delights

There always seem to be people filing in and out of this small sandwich shop set in the center of Branson's mainstream. A good reason is this shop's reputation for fresh deli sandwiches. The tables are smallish and closely spaced in order to accommodate the shop's many local customers, but the service is quick and friendly. The turkey club ($4.95) is generously stacked with shaved turkey breast, ham, bacon and a wide variety of greens. The desserts here are worth mention as well, with funnel cakes vying for your attention alongside fresh strawberry or blackberry shortcakes.
