38 Special (also known as .38 Special or Thirty-Eight Special) is a hard/Southern rock band from Jacksonville, Florida that saw its rise during the late-1970s as a Southern rock band, only to shift its music into the more popular realm of arena rock at the beginning of the 1980s. The band would reach the limelight in 1981 with the release of its hit single "Hold On Loosely," which was followed up by the two Billboard #1 hits, "Caught Up In You" and "If I'd Been the One" in 1982 and 1983, respectively. Despite seeing a lull in the band's career during the 1990s, 38 Special would come back in full force in 2007 and is showing no signs of letting up.

One of the most influential figures in the R&B scene of New Orleans, Allen Toussaint is a singer, producer and prolific songwriter who created several hits for artists like Lee Dorsey, Robert Palmer and The Meters. Many of his more famous compositions, such as The Rolling Stones' recording of "Fortune Teller" and Otis Redding's interpretation "Pain in My Heart," were penned under his mother's maiden name, Naomi Neville. Toussaint may have made his name as a behind the scenes man throughout the 1960s and 1970s, but he also embarked on his own solo career in the 1970s and released a few of his own records including From a Whisper to a Scream and Southern Nights. He continues to write music and collaborate with artists today for projects such as his big band endeavor with Elvis Costello for the 2006 record The River in Reverse.

Lewis Black is a stand-up comedian from Silver Spring, MD who, aside from his stand-up comedy shows, is perhaps best known for his irreverant commentary segment on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart entitled "Back in Black." Black's trademark, disgruntled-to-the-verge-of-insanity comic style made him one of Comedy Central's biggest talents since he premiered his own special on the network in 1998. Since then, Black has continued his thoroughly successful career with the network, as well as his career in stand-up, which produced a Grammy Award winning comedy album of his groundbreaking Carnegie Hall performance in 2007.
