White Oak Park is a popular recreational spot among locals and visitors alike. It features a mile-long running and jogging track on the periphery of the scenic artificial lake. Additional features include a baseball diamond, soccer field, playground, pavilion, barbecue grills and picnic tables.
The Miller Park Zoo is an ideal spot to visit, especially if you have children along. The rather small zoo engages visitors in an array of activities like animal rescue, animal adoption, classes for kids volunteer programs, hosting birthday parties and many other events. The zoo houses various local as well as exotic wildlife like tigers, bald eagles, seals, monkeys, kangaroos, frogs, bears, tropical birds, snakes and wolves. They also have a petting area and the volunteers are polite and helpful.
McLean County Museum of History (McLean County Courthouse) is set in the former McLean County Courthouse which is a fine example of the elegant American Renaissance style of architecture. It has been a history museum since 1991. Get a glimpse of the county's history through its various exhibits.
Franklin Square is located in Bloomington, Illinois, in the McLean County. It is a historic district and features the homes of former Vice President Adlai Stevenson I and former Governor Joseph W. Fifer. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 11, 1976.
Lincoln Oak Memorial is near to the Vrooman Mansion. The oak tree was significant as Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas had used the shade of the tree for their many speeches. However the tree died in 1976. A plaque was built in 1914 to the original tree which is still stands. A replacement tree was planted in 1980.
David Davis Mansion or the Clover Lawn as its more locally known is a National Historic Landmark. It is a fine example of Italianate and Victorian style architectures. Built in 1872, it was the home of David Davis and is now a state museum.
Illinois State University in Normal town is the state's earliest public university. It offers various doctoral and graduate programs and supports different research projects.
