This entertainment and shopping hub of Davenport dates back to the 1850s era. The Village of East Davenport that is commonly referred to as The Village is certainly deep-rooted in history. A witness of the Civil War and the Prohibition Era, it is also known for the huge fire that engulfed many homes and rendered almost 250 people homeless.

Sacred Heart Cathedral is a majestic structure and Davenport landmark. Some of its architectural features include high ceilings, stained-glass windows, a beautiful altar, a pipe organ and several religious images.
Founded in 1836 by Antoine LeClaire and named after George Davenport, Davenport enjoys its gorgeous location along the banks of the idyllic Mississippi River which allows for romantic cruises and other activity. Annual festivals like the Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Festival, the Quad City Air Show and the Valley Blues Festival attract interstate visitors as well as international tourists. The downtown area is filled with public libraries, museums, parks, cafes, theaters, cinemas and malls. This city indeed has something to please all tastes.
The Horseshack in downtown Rock Island is quite an unconventional platform for upcoming local and national independent bands. Adopted by the website Daytrotter.com as their recording studio in 2006, this state-of-the-art studio has hosted the recordings of more than 2000 sessions by various indie bands. During the sessions, each band records four songs which are then available for downloads and live streaming on the website on payment of a small fee. The list of artists/ bands who have recorded their songs here is endless and growing as the days go by. And if you want to witness these sessions in progress, then you can walk down to the studio and watch the bands record their songs. A unique concept, indeed! Visit the Daytrotter's website for more information.
