One of the premier higher educational institutions in Kentucky, the Eastern Kentucky University has been providing education to the state, and the region, since 1874. The university was opened as the Central University, but due to an expanding campus, it was re-named the Eastern Kentucky University in 1906, and since then has held a high position in the education sphere. On offer are extensive graduate and undergraduate programs, with equal attention to extra-curricular activities and athletics. See the website to know more.
The monumental site of White Hall was constructed in the year 1798. It comprehensively encompasses a land cover of 13.6 acres (5.5 hectares). It stood as a home to the prominent Cassius Marcellus Clay, who was a politician, soldier and an anti-slavery newspaper publisher. The Hall is predominantly a 44-room mansion. The structure gracefully traces the Italianate and the Georgian styles of architecture. The site has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places in the year 1971.
Historic area and state park is beautiful and educational.
